Mandawa
The compact and busy little market town of Mandawa was settled in the 18th century, and was fortified by the dominant merchant families. The Binsidhar Newatia Haveli has curious paintings on its outer eastern wall- The Gulab Rai Ladia Haveli has some defaced erotic images.











Ajmer
Just over 130 km south-west of Jaipur is Ajmer, a burgeoning town on the shore of the Ana Sagar, flanked by barren hills. Historically, Ajmer had considerable strategic importance and was sacked by Mohammed of Ghori on one of his periodic forays from Afghanistan. Later, it became a favourite residence of the mighty Mughals. One of the first contact between the Mughals and the British occurred in Ajmer, when Sir Thomas Roe met with Jehangir here in 1616.

Pushkar
Pushkar is a bewitching little town, despite its somewhat touristy feel these days. It is right on the edge of the desert and is only 11 km from Ajmer but separated from it by Nag Pahar, the Snake Mountain. This traveler-friendly town clings to the side of the enchanting Pushkar Lake with its many bathing ghats and temples. For Hindus, Pushkar is a very important pilgrimage centre. Pushkar is perhaps best known for its Camel Fair, which takes place on the full moon of Kartik Purnima. This massive congregation of camels, cattle, livestock traders, pilgrims, tourist and film-makers is a most incredible event.

Ranthambore National Park
Near the town of Sawai Madhopur, Ranthambore National Park is one of the prime examples of Project Tiger's conservation efforts in Rajasthan. The best time to visit the park is closed during the monsoon from 1 July to 1 October. Early morning and late afternoon are generally the best times for spotting wildlife.
